[JUST IN]: FA Charges Rodri Over Referee Comments After Spurs Draw

 

The The Football Association has charged Rodri with misconduct following remarks he made about match officials after Manchester City’s dramatic 2–2 away draw against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

The Spain international expressed frustration after City surrendered a two-goal lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on February 1. The turning point came early in the second half when Dominic Solanke pulled a goal back for Spurs in a controversial build-up that City players believed should have been ruled out. Referee Robert Jones allowed the goal to stand, and Solanke later struck again to secure the comeback.

In a post-match interview, Rodri questioned the officiating, stating that referees must remain neutral and suggesting certain decisions had gone against City repeatedly this season.

The FA alleged that Rodri acted in an “improper manner” by making comments that imply bias or question the integrity of a match official. He has been given until February 18 to respond to the charge.

City had dominated the first half and raced into a 2–0 lead before Spurs’ turnaround. Reflecting on the moment, Rodri said the match could have ended differently if the first goal had not been allowed.

The midfielder also hinted at broader frustrations within the team as they continue their Premier League title chase under manager Pep Guardiola. City currently sit second on the table, four points behind Arsenal.
